FACE HIM

"As I turn to face you, you're already facing me"
I got this phrase the other day during my devotional and was taken back by how much God loves me. That every time I turn to face him he's already been looking at me the entire time.
So I started this devotional "Emotionally healthy Relationships Day by Day" a 40-day journey to deeply change your relationships by Peter Scazzero ( shoutout to my sister for leaving her good books at home for me to steal) the devotional focuses on the idea that the health of your horizontal relationships is dependent on your vertical relationship with God. That your relationship with Jesus will directly influence your relationships with the people in your life. I've known this and I've heard it a million times but the closer I get to people the more evident it becomes that when I haven't had time with God, the way I treat people is so flawed, which is understandable because I'm a flawed human, but when we spend time with God we are transformed into the image of Christ and loving people does not come out of own capability but rather through the overflow of Gods perfect love.
Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
The story of Martha and Mary is a perfect example of deciding to face Jesus, to intentionally decide to sit at the feet of Jesus. I really think that in this day and age were like Martha - distracted by the demands of our busy lives, trying to perfect, trying to accomplish trying trying trying. I found myself in that mindset for a while, trying to accomplish, trying to be better, trying to love better by doing but I find that the more I tried to conjure up ways to be better, more intentional more caring in my own strength I just saw cracks and flaws in my works. It wasn't until the devotional that said 'The story of Mary and Martha teaches us why it is essential to slow down to sit at the feet of Jesus if we are to love others well'
The weight of loving better now changed from relying on my own works to rather relying on my relationship with Jesus. The closer I draw to God the easier it becomes to love.
I love what Jesus said, "but few things are needed—or indeed only one."
How beautiful to know that our relationship with Jesus is all we need and through our relationship everything else will fall into place. I thought that I needed more time, more money, more ideas to love better but essentially all I needed was Jesus and through our relationship, he will sustain the rest of my relationships.
I love how we're only a month into 2021 and I can already see God working in my heart, yay for growth and for never settling in your relationship with Jesus and others!
If you guys have any topics, questions or things you'd like for me to chat about please leave it in the comments! Would love to hear from you!
